Your expert A question about this product?

A cognac split toe Derby is the warm version of a shoe defined by what your eye finds second. Open lacing, and the split toe seam running up the center of the vamp: a raised, hand-stitched line that takes real skill to execute cleanly and gives the shoe a character no plain derby carries. The cognac is built up by hand, burnished deeper at the toe and heel so it glows between amber and copper as the light moves, the central seam catching the same warmth. Every Norwegian is made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressy.

Put it under a navy suit and the warm color lifts it; put it under tan or pale linen and the split toe makes the casual look deliberate. A warm color and a hand-sewn detail, together — the dress shoe that rewards a closer look.

Cognac catches the light. The split toe earns the second look.

The 358 Last

Toe shape: Soft chisel · Fit: Medium · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads modern but approachable. The 358 is the more tempered version of the 357: the chisel toe exists, but it softens at the tip — almost imperceptibly, but enough to make the overall look more versatile and less polarizing.

Same body, same fit, same comfort at the ball of the foot as the 357. The difference lives in that last millimeter of transition: the 358 works with more casual clothes without the toe reading out of place. The right choice if you like the chisel silhouette but prefer something that doesn't announce itself.

Split Toe Derby

A split toe derby is defined by the raised seam running down the center of the toe, dividing the vamp in two.

It is a shoe with a handmade look built into its shape: the seam catches light, breaks up the front of the foot and gives the silhouette an edge that a plain toe never has. Open lacing keeps it easy to wear.

It sits comfortably with flannel and tweed, and it carries a rubber lug sole as naturally as a leather one.

Ours are Goodyear welted in European calfskin, with the split seam raised proud of the vamp rather than pressed flat.

Vibram Sole

A Vibram sole is the lugged, studded rubber Vibram has been making for mountain boots since the 1930s, fitted here to shoes that have to work outdoors without looking like hiking gear.

It is the grippiest sole we fit: the tread is deep, the compound stays flexible in the cold, and it holds on wet rock and loose ground where a smooth sole would slide.

It sits most often under suede, where the pairing is honest about what the shoe is for. Choose it when the walk is unpaved and the weather is not a detail you get to plan around.
