Your expert A question about this product?

The Francis is a black double monk strap on the elegant Louvre last, here on a sole built for real days. Two buckles, a clean closed throat, a smooth box-calf upper with a soft-square toe. Made in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted by our artisans, one pair at a time. Beneath the leather sits a discreet high-density rubber half-sole: grip on wet ground, a sole that wears slower, the sharp formal look intact.

The most deliberate dress shoe in the range, set up for the street. Fasten the buckles and go — the straps read exactly as they should, the rubber handles the rest.

The Oxford is expected. The Francis is chosen — and ready for the road.

The Louvre Last

Toe shape: Soft square · Fit: Very roomy · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads contemporary and distinctive. The soft square toe echoes the City's generous fit, but instead of resolving in a full curve, the toe flattens slightly — a touch of geometry that gives it a character of its own without tipping into formal stiffness or casualness.

The effect is subtle: not the assertive chisel of the 357, but a suggestion of squareness that modernizes the silhouette. Works particularly well with more structured clothing, or for the man who wants to step just slightly off the classic path without leaving it.

Double Monk Strap

Two buckles, no laces.

A double monk strap closes with a pair of straps drawn across the vamp, which makes it the most confident shoe in a formal wardrobe — the one that gets noticed without doing anything loud. Monastic in origin, it kept the closed, protective front of a dress shoe and dropped the lacing entirely.

Under a suit it sharpens the whole outfit; with flannel or dark denim it does the work of three other shoes.

Ours is the Francis, Goodyear welted and built across several lasts, from the soft-square Louvre to the chisel-toed 722.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
