Your expert A question about this product?

Museum brown is marbled at the Ilcea tannery, and the curved facing of a brown Adelaide Oxford catches every bit of the movement. The Museum brown is famous for its marbled, cloud-like finish — created at the Ilcea tannery, where dyes are layered onto the wet hide so no two pieces come out the same, a depth flat calf can't imitate, shifting between chestnut and walnut across the upper, the curved Adelaide facing catching the movement. Underneath, the Adelaide sits on the 358 last, with extra room across the forefoot for a superior fit. Made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressy.

Put it under gray or navy and the Museum brown does what flat brown can't: in a photograph it reads rich, in person it moves. The Adelaide framing and the hand-painted leather, doing the work together.

The detail is in the lacing. The depth is in the leather.

The 358 Last

Toe shape: Soft chisel · Fit: Medium · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads modern but approachable. The 358 is the more tempered version of the 357: the chisel toe exists, but it softens at the tip — almost imperceptibly, but enough to make the overall look more versatile and less polarizing.

Same body, same fit, same comfort at the ball of the foot as the 357. The difference lives in that last millimeter of transition: the 358 works with more casual clothes without the toe reading out of place. The right choice if you like the chisel silhouette but prefer something that doesn't announce itself.

Adelaide

An Adelaide is an Oxford with its lacing panels stitched in a U or D shape, framing the throat instead of running straight into the vamp.

Small change, large effect: the eye follows the curve, the facing looks narrower, and the whole shoe reads longer and more considered. Most men do not know the name and every one of them notices the shoe.

Formal enough for a wedding, distinct enough that it never disappears into a row of black cap toes.

Ours is built on the 358 last — a soft-square chisel toe — and Goodyear welted, so the frame around the laces keeps its shape.

Leather Sole (Closed Channel)

A closed channel leather sole is finished so that the stitching disappears. A thin layer of the sole is lifted, the stitch that holds the outsole is laid into the groove beneath it, and the leather is closed back over the top.

What is left is an uninterrupted surface from toe to heel — no stitch line, nothing on the bottom of the shoe but leather. It is work done on the part of a shoe almost nobody looks at, which is rather the point of it.

Underfoot it behaves like any leather sole: thin enough to keep the line the last gave the shoe, quiet on a hard floor, and replaceable when it finally goes.
