Your expert A question about this product?

Clean, laced, and cut from a leather most men never get to own: this is a cognac ankle boot. The Museum cognac is the famous Museum Calf, marbled at the Ilcea tannery where dyes are layered onto the wet hide so no two pieces come out the same, glowing between amber and copper and shifting with the light, a depth flat calf can't imitate. Here the Renoir is built on the 358 last, with extra room across the forefoot for a superior fit. Made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. Beneath the leather sits a discreet rubber half-sole: grip on wet ground and a sole that wears slower, under a boot this refined.

Put it under denim and it lifts the whole look; put it under gray flannel and the warm Museum cognac does the rest. A laced ankle boot in hand-painted Italian leather — refined where it shows, sure-footed where it counts.

The boot for the man who knows what he's looking at, and knows no one else will.

The 358 Last

Toe shape: Soft chisel · Fit: Medium · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads modern but approachable. The 358 is the more tempered version of the 357: the chisel toe exists, but it softens at the tip — almost imperceptibly, but enough to make the overall look more versatile and less polarizing.

Same body, same fit, same comfort at the ball of the foot as the 357. The difference lives in that last millimeter of transition: the 358 works with more casual clothes without the toe reading out of place. The right choice if you like the chisel silhouette but prefer something that doesn't announce itself.

Ankle Boot

An ankle boot is cut exactly where the name says: high enough to close around the ankle, low enough to move like a shoe.

That is a narrow and very useful place to sit — more presence than an Oxford, less commitment than a full boot, and easy under a trouser that breaks at the shoe.

Wear it from autumn through spring with almost anything short of black tie.

Ours is the Renoir, built on the 358 last for a soft-square toe and Goodyear welted, on a rubber half-sole or a Vibram sole depending on how much weather you expect to meet.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
