You'll read the saddle first and the color second on this dark brown saddle Oxford. Closed lacing, a saddle panel across the instep, a near-black brown; and on the 722 last it runs long and lean with a chisel toe. The upper is top-grade European calfskin, the dark brown burnished by hand at the toe and heel for depth and tonal movement. What sets this version apart is the 722 last: the sleekest line in the range, sharper and more modern than the rounder 675. The Martin is made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressed.

Under charcoal or navy the combination reads as a choice arrived at carefully — the warmth of the dark brown, the structure of the saddle, the precision of the 722 line, all in one shoe. For the man who wants his formal shoe traditional in character and contemporary in silhouette.

Quiet color, deliberate shape, the saddle as the single thing asking for attention.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

Saddle Oxford

A saddle Oxford takes its name from the panel of leather laid across the instep — the saddle — usually cut in a contrasting hide. Closed lacing keeps the shoe formal; that one panel keeps it from being solemn. Golf courses and college campuses made the shape famous in the twenties and it has never needed updating since. Wear it where a plain cap toe would feel like a uniform: with flannel, with denim, with a suit you want to look lived-in rather than issued. Ours is the Martin, Goodyear welted in top-grade European calfskin, with the saddle set to read as a shift in tone rather than a slogan.

The 722 Last

Toe shape: Chisel · Fit: Snug · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads long, stretched, and sharp. The chisel toe draws an almost horizontal line at the front of the shoe — it doesn't end in a point or a curve, but in a clean, straight edge that gives a very modern and deliberate silhouette. From the instep to the floor, the last communicates intent: this is a shoe that wants to be noticed.

The lateral profile is low and taut. There is no volume in the toe box — the last tapers gradually toward the front without inflating the cap. The result is a shoe that looks even slimmer than it measures, with that visual elongation that makes the foot appear longer and more elegant.

Ideal if you're looking for presence without excess: a shoe that enters the room before you do.

Leather Sole

A leather sole is the dressiest way to finish a shoe, and the reason a good pair reads as a good pair from across the room. It is thin where a rubber sole is thick, so the shoe keeps the line the last gave it instead of adding bulk under the foot.

Leather breathes, takes the shape of the way you walk within a few wears, and can be replaced when it finally goes — this is a sole built to be renewed, not discarded.

It is quieter on a hard floor than anything else we make, and it is the sole to choose when the occasion is formal and the day is dry.
