A black longwing Derby for the days that keep moving and the mornings that start wet. Open laces, a full wingtip, broguing along the seams, in a clean box-calf black. Built on the 675 last — almond toe, roomier fit. Every Alex is made in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted by our artisans, one pair at a time. Beneath the leather sits a discreet high-density rubber half-sole: grip on wet pavement, a sole that wears slower, the look kept sharp.

A derby that handles the commute and the weather both. Wear it Monday to Friday and it never blinks — black wingtip, open laces, quiet grip.

Some shoes need the right occasion. This one needs a forecast even less.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

Wingtip Derby

A wingtip derby takes the easy, open-laced shoe and gives it a pointed toe cap that sweeps back along both sides in a W — the wing — usually finished with broguing along its edges. Country in origin, city in practice. That detail adds visual weight at the front, which balances a heavier trouser and makes the shoe look grounded rather than dainty. Wear it with tweed, corduroy, flannel, or a navy suit on a day that does not need a plain cap toe. Ours is the Alex, Goodyear welted in European calfskin on either the almond-toed 675 or the sharper, chisel-toed 722.

The 675 Last

Toe shape: Almond · Fit: Roomy · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads balanced, clean, and classically European. The almond toe is generous — there is real volume in the toe box, well-formed and slightly domed — but it resolves into an elegant roundness that never becomes aggressive or pointed.

Compared to the 722, the 675 has more body: the foot breathes, the toes settle with natural ease. Compared to a round-toe last, it still has definition — the toe has its own character. The result is a shoe that looks serious without effort, with harmonious proportions that work with a suit, chinos, or even dark denim.

The English last in its most balanced form: presence without drama, elegance without posturing.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
