Your expert A question about this product?

An oxblood penny loafer that is also planted, sharp, and ready for wet ground is the hard version of bold. The boldest combinable color in the range — a deep wine-dark red that works with gray, navy, and denim like black does, with character black can't — burnished by hand so it glows and shifts. Underneath it runs long and lean with a slight chisel toe, the Smith at its sharpest. Made in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted by our artisans, one pair at a time. Beneath the leather sits a discreet high-density rubber half-sole: grip on wet ground, a longer-lasting sole, the character intact.

The 722 makes the oxblood deliberate. The half-rubber makes it practical. The loafer you chose, planted firmly, in any weather.

Black is the safe loafer. Oxblood is the one you chose — sharp, and ready for the road.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

The 722 Last

Toe shape: Chisel · Fit: Snug · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads long, stretched, and sharp. The chisel toe draws an almost horizontal line at the front of the shoe — it doesn't end in a point or a curve, but in a clean, straight edge that gives a very modern and deliberate silhouette. From the instep to the floor, the last communicates intent: this is a shoe that wants to be noticed.

The lateral profile is low and taut. There is no volume in the toe box — the last tapers gradually toward the front without inflating the cap. The result is a shoe that looks even slimmer than it measures, with that visual elongation that makes the foot appear longer and more elegant.

Ideal if you're looking for presence without excess: a shoe that enters the room before you do.

Penny Loafer

A penny loafer is the slip-on that dresses up.

A leather strap crosses the vamp with a small cut-out slot in the middle — the slot that once held a coin and gave the shoe its name — and everything else is kept slim and low. No laces, no hardware, no fuss.

Worn with tailored trousers it is nearly as dressy as a derby; worn with chinos in July it is the most comfortable correct shoe there is.

Ours are Goodyear welted, which is unusual in a loafer and the reason the shape holds instead of collapsing after a season of being pulled on and kicked off.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
