Your expert A question about this product?

The Henry is a cognac penny loafer on the Monaco last, in a Museum suede — a soft Museum suede with a marbled cognac depth, finished at the tannery in a way smooth calf can't touch. The nap holds the color warm and uneven in the best way, glowing between amber and copper as the light shifts.

Suede this refined reads relaxed and considered at once. Under linen or pale tailoring it's the warmest thing in the room.

Cognac, in suede, hand-finished — quiet luxury at the floor.

The Monaco Last

Toe shape: European almond · Fit: Snug · Sizing: Size down half a size (true to size if wide feet)

The loafer reads characterful, with Mediterranean flair. The Monaco gives penny loafers that specifically European character that sets them apart from the fuller American moccasin: there is length, there is definition at the toe, there is a point of elegance that needs no justification.

The instep sits higher than on the 144, giving slightly more body and visual presence. The fit is snugger than most loafer lasts — the shoe holds the foot, which contributes to that clean silhouette with no excess material collapsing around the ankle.

The recommendation to size down half applies to most — if you have wide feet, your normal size will fit correctly.

American Penny Loafer

The American penny loafer is the collegiate cousin: fuller through the vamp, moccasin in spirit, and usually finished with beefroll stitching where the strap meets the upper.

Where the slim European penny is a dress shoe without laces, this one is a casual shoe with good manners. It has been on campuses, in newsrooms and under chinos for seventy years without once looking like it was trying.

Wear it with a soft trouser, with raw denim, with bare ankles in summer.

Ours is the Henry, cut on loafer lasts made for the shape — the Monaco for European flair, the 144 for a longer, sleeker line.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
