Your expert A question about this product?

A black Derby asks less of you than an Oxford and gives back more than a loafer. Where the Oxford is strict, the Derby is easier — the lace flaps sit on top of the vamp, so it pulls on without fuss and gives a little more room across the foot. The upper is top-grade European calfskin, a box calf with a tight, glossy surface that reads formal under any light. It's built on the 675 last — an almond toe with a slightly deeper fit — so the foot settles in and the shoe stays comfortable through the day. No broguing, no wingtip: just a smooth upper, clean and correct. The Marco is made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressed.

This is the dress shoe for the man who finds the Oxford a touch formal and the loafer a touch casual. Put it under a suit and it reads quietly correct; put it under dark denim and it holds. The Marco sits exactly in the middle.

The clean black Derby — the shoe that covers the middle ground better than anything else.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

The 675 Last

Toe shape: Almond · Fit: Roomy · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads balanced, clean, and classically European. The almond toe is generous — there is real volume in the toe box, well-formed and slightly domed — but it resolves into an elegant roundness that never becomes aggressive or pointed.

Compared to the 722, the 675 has more body: the foot breathes, the toes settle with natural ease. Compared to a round-toe last, it still has definition — the toe has its own character. The result is a shoe that looks serious without effort, with harmonious proportions that work with a suit, chinos, or even dark denim.

The English last in its most balanced form: presence without drama, elegance without posturing.

Derby

Open lacing is the whole difference.

On a derby the lace flaps sit on top of the vamp rather than under it, which gives more room across the instep and a friendlier, less severe line than an Oxford. High insteps fit it better. Wardrobes use it more.

A derby handles a suit on Monday and dark denim on Saturday without looking like it is trying either time, which is why it is usually the second dress shoe a man buys and the one he ends up wearing most.

Ours are Goodyear welted in European calfskin — the construction that keeps a shoe worn this often from wearing through.

Leather Sole

A leather sole is the dressiest way to finish a shoe, and the reason a good pair reads as a good pair from across the room. It is thin where a rubber sole is thick, so the shoe keeps the line the last gave it instead of adding bulk under the foot.

Leather breathes, takes the shape of the way you walk within a few wears, and can be replaced when it finally goes — this is a sole built to be renewed, not discarded.

It is quieter on a hard floor than anything else we make, and it is the sole to choose when the occasion is formal and the day is dry.
