Your expert A question about this product?

The safest thing about a tobacco longwing Derby is that nobody else will be wearing one. Open laces, a full wingtip, broguing along the seams, in a deep golden amber-brown; and on the 722 last it runs long and lean with a slight chisel toe. The upper is top-grade European calfskin, the tobacco built up by hand and burnished deeper at the toe and heel so it moves between amber and chestnut as the light shifts. What sets this version apart is the 722 last: the sleekest line in the range. The Alex is made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressy.

Put it under autumn dressing — charcoal, gray, heavy denim — and it reads as though the shoe was designed for the clothes. The broguing gives the silhouette character; the 722 gives the tobacco a sharp line.

Tobacco is the wingtip people ask about. On the 722, it earns the conversation.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

The 722 Last

Toe shape: Chisel · Fit: Snug · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads long, stretched, and sharp. The chisel toe draws an almost horizontal line at the front of the shoe — it doesn't end in a point or a curve, but in a clean, straight edge that gives a very modern and deliberate silhouette. From the instep to the floor, the last communicates intent: this is a shoe that wants to be noticed.

The lateral profile is low and taut. There is no volume in the toe box — the last tapers gradually toward the front without inflating the cap. The result is a shoe that looks even slimmer than it measures, with that visual elongation that makes the foot appear longer and more elegant.

Ideal if you're looking for presence without excess: a shoe that enters the room before you do.

Alex Tobacco 722

Wingtip Derby

A wingtip derby takes the easy, open-laced shoe and gives it a pointed toe cap that sweeps back along both sides in a W — the wing — usually finished with broguing along its edges.

Country in origin, city in practice. That detail adds visual weight at the front, which balances a heavier trouser and makes the shoe look grounded rather than dainty.

Wear it with tweed, corduroy, flannel, or a navy suit on a day that does not need a plain cap toe.

Ours is the Alex, Goodyear welted in European calfskin on either the almond-toed 675 or the sharper, chisel-toed 722.

Leather Sole

A leather sole is the dressiest way to finish a shoe, and the reason a good pair reads as a good pair from across the room. It is thin where a rubber sole is thick, so the shoe keeps the line the last gave it instead of adding bulk under the foot.

Leather breathes, takes the shape of the way you walk within a few wears, and can be replaced when it finally goes — this is a sole built to be renewed, not discarded.

It is quieter on a hard floor than anything else we make, and it is the sole to choose when the occasion is formal and the day is dry.
