Chris Dark Brown Calf Single Monk - 675

Dark brown is brown with the lights turned down — nearly as formal as black, warmer than you'd expect, and quietly more interesting than either. The Chris carries it well: a single monk strap, one buckle, a wingtip brogued along the sides and a plain toe left clean.

The colour is hand-work. Every non-black pair is burnished by an artisan, and on dark brown the effect is depth — the leather pulling toward espresso at the edges and lifting in the light. The upper is full-grain European calfskin; the last is the 675, with its almond toe and slightly deeper, roomier fit for long-day comfort. Goodyear welted in Spain, with a full leather sole at its dressiest — slim, classic, and built to be resoled rather than replaced.

This is the brown for the man who finds black a little expected and tan a little loud. It sharpens a navy or charcoal suit and reads just as right with denim and a jacket. The shoe that looks formal until you look closer — and then looks better.
