Your expert A question about this product?

You'll get asked about the seam on a brown split toe Derby before you get asked about the color. Open lacing, the raised split toe seam running up the center of the vamp, in a warm mid-brown that goes everywhere a dress shoe should. The upper is top-grade European calfskin, the brown built up by hand: burnished deeper at the toe and heel so the color shifts between chestnut and tobacco as the light moves, and the central seam catches that same movement. Underneath, the Norwegian runs on the 722 last — long and lean with a slight chisel toe. Made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressy.

Put it under gray or navy and it reads considered; put it under chinos and it reads easy. The brown that covers the most occasions, with a detail that makes it the one people look at twice.

Brown covers the most ground. The split toe makes sure it's noticed.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

The 722 Last

Toe shape: Chisel · Fit: Snug · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads long, stretched, and sharp. The chisel toe draws an almost horizontal line at the front of the shoe — it doesn't end in a point or a curve, but in a clean, straight edge that gives a very modern and deliberate silhouette. From the instep to the floor, the last communicates intent: this is a shoe that wants to be noticed.

The lateral profile is low and taut. There is no volume in the toe box — the last tapers gradually toward the front without inflating the cap. The result is a shoe that looks even slimmer than it measures, with that visual elongation that makes the foot appear longer and more elegant.

Ideal if you're looking for presence without excess: a shoe that enters the room before you do.

Norwegian Brown 722

Split Toe Derby

A split toe derby is defined by the raised seam running down the center of the toe, dividing the vamp in two.

It is a shoe with a handmade look built into its shape: the seam catches light, breaks up the front of the foot and gives the silhouette an edge that a plain toe never has. Open lacing keeps it easy to wear.

It sits comfortably with flannel and tweed, and it carries a rubber lug sole as naturally as a leather one.

Ours are Goodyear welted in European calfskin, with the split seam raised proud of the vamp rather than pressed flat.

Leather Sole

A leather sole is the dressiest way to finish a shoe, and the reason a good pair reads as a good pair from across the room. It is thin where a rubber sole is thick, so the shoe keeps the line the last gave it instead of adding bulk under the foot.

Leather breathes, takes the shape of the way you walk within a few wears, and can be replaced when it finally goes — this is a sole built to be renewed, not discarded.

It is quieter on a hard floor than anything else we make, and it is the sole to choose when the occasion is formal and the day is dry.
