Your expert A question about this product?

An oxblood penny loafer in Italian Museum calfskin is the pair most men never get to own. A deep, wine-dark red that works with gray, navy, charcoal, and denim the way black does, then adds the character black can't; here it's hand-finished with an antiqued depth, shifting between burgundy and near-black as the light moves, no two pairs the same. Few men dare it, which is exactly why it lands: it signals taste, not risk. A clean leather strap and no laces, on the Smith's elegant 750 last. Made by our artisans in a workshop in Almansa, Goodyear welted, one pair at a time. A full leather sole keeps it dressy.

A handcrafted loafer in marbled Museum Calf from Ilcea, the most expressive color in the line — the no-brainer for the man who wants to stand out without being too loud. Put it under gray flannel or dark denim and let it start the conversation.

Black is the safe loafer. Museum oxblood is the one you chose.

The 750 Last

Toe shape: Contemporary almond · Fit: Roomy · Sizing: True to size

The loafer reads comfortable, rounded, and unmistakably elegant. The almond toe is contemporary but soft — full and continuous, with no taper that hardens the line and no edge asking to be noticed. The roundness is deliberate: it is what gives the shoe its ease.

The fit is generous throughout — real volume across the ball of the foot, a comfortable instep, and enough width for the foot to settle without pressure. This is a loafer made to be worn from morning to night, the kind you put on and stop thinking about.

Elegance here comes from proportion rather than from drama. Nothing is sharpened to make a point, and that restraint is exactly what lets the 750 move between tailoring and chinos without ever looking out of place.

Penny Loafer

A penny loafer is the slip-on that dresses up.

A leather strap crosses the vamp with a small cut-out slot in the middle — the slot that once held a coin and gave the shoe its name — and everything else is kept slim and low. No laces, no hardware, no fuss.

Worn with tailored trousers it is nearly as dressy as a derby; worn with chinos in July it is the most comfortable correct shoe there is.

Ours are Goodyear welted, which is unusual in a loafer and the reason the shape holds instead of collapsing after a season of being pulled on and kicked off.

Leather Sole (Closed Channel)

A closed channel leather sole is finished so that the stitching disappears. A thin layer of the sole is lifted, the stitch that holds the outsole is laid into the groove beneath it, and the leather is closed back over the top.

What is left is an uninterrupted surface from toe to heel — no stitch line, nothing on the bottom of the shoe but leather. It is work done on the part of a shoe almost nobody looks at, which is rather the point of it.

Underfoot it behaves like any leather sole: thin enough to keep the line the last gave the shoe, quiet on a hard floor, and replaceable when it finally goes.
