Your expert A question about this product?

A tobacco longwing Derby with rich color and a sharp line has no business surviving a wet October, and this one does. Long, lean, a slight chisel toe; open laces, full wingtip, broguing along the seams, in a deep golden amber-brown hand-burnished at the toe and heel for warmth and movement. Made in a workshop in Almansa, every Alex is Goodyear welted by our artisans, one pair at a time. Beneath the leather sits a discreet high-density rubber half-sole: grip gained, a longer-lasting sole, the character untouched.

Rich color, sharp shape, ready for the autumn commute and the evenings that run long. Warm where it shows, planted below.

Some shoes need the right occasion. This one carries the richest color and goes wherever the road does.

Size & Fit

This model fits true to UK/US standard sizing, so simply order what you usually wear in dress shoes or the size that appears most in your shoe closet.

To compare your foot measurements, open the Size Guide in the size selector above.

If the fit isn’t right the first time around, exchange for a different size is free and easy!

Our standard D width fits most feet. If your feet feel a little wide, go half a size up in D. If you know they are genuinely wide, order your usual size in EE: it adds 9 mm (0.35") of girth for extra room and comfort. EE pairs also come with a free set of insoles, so you can fine-tune the fit with complete confidence.

When in doubt, order the same size you usually wear in dress shoes.

The 722 Last

Toe shape: Chisel · Fit: Snug · Sizing: True to size

The shoe reads long, stretched, and sharp. The chisel toe draws an almost horizontal line at the front of the shoe — it doesn't end in a point or a curve, but in a clean, straight edge that gives a very modern and deliberate silhouette. From the instep to the floor, the last communicates intent: this is a shoe that wants to be noticed.

The lateral profile is low and taut. There is no volume in the toe box — the last tapers gradually toward the front without inflating the cap. The result is a shoe that looks even slimmer than it measures, with that visual elongation that makes the foot appear longer and more elegant.

Ideal if you're looking for presence without excess: a shoe that enters the room before you do.

Alex Tobacco 722

Wingtip Derby

A wingtip derby takes the easy, open-laced shoe and gives it a pointed toe cap that sweeps back along both sides in a W — the wing — usually finished with broguing along its edges.

Country in origin, city in practice. That detail adds visual weight at the front, which balances a heavier trouser and makes the shoe look grounded rather than dainty.

Wear it with tweed, corduroy, flannel, or a navy suit on a day that does not need a plain cap toe.

Ours is the Alex, Goodyear welted in European calfskin on either the almond-toed 675 or the sharper, chisel-toed 722.

Half Rubber Sole

A half-rubber sole is a leather sole with a thin, high-density rubber half-sole set into the forepart — the half that meets the pavement first and wears out first.

From the side it is still a leather sole, so the shoe keeps the slim profile and the dress-shoe line; underfoot it grips on wet stone and lasts appreciably longer between resoles.

It is the answer to the most common question we get: how do I wear these to the office when the walk from the train is ten blocks in the rain. If you own one dress shoe and it has to work every day, this is the finish to pick.
