Your expert A question about this product?

Relaxed material, serious build — a brown suede Derby on a commando sole is both at once. The upper is a soft European suede in a warm mid-brown, a matte nap that absorbs light and reads easy in a way smooth calf can't; open lacing keeps the whole shoe casual and unforced. Beneath it, a deep-lugged commando sole: real grip on wet ground and cold streets, a confident stance, a touch more height. Suede on top, traction below — the combination that handles a wet autumn without looking like it's trying. Every James is Goodyear welted by our artisans, one pair at a time, in a workshop in Almansa.

Put it under denim, chinos, or heavy cords and it reads warm and capable. The suede derby for the man who wants the easy material and the rugged sole in the same shoe.

Relaxed where it shows, serious where it counts.

The 780 Last

Toe shape: Round · Fit: Roomy · Sizing: True to size

The boot reads classic, clean, and effortless. The 780 brings the round toe into the world of ultra-light rubber soles: the same elegance of a classic silhouette, but with a comfort that is felt from the first step.

Designed specifically for boots with Vibram Morflex or Gumlite soles — the kind of boot you put on a Monday morning and forget you're wearing shoes. The toe competes with nothing: it steps aside and lets the leather and construction take the attention they deserve.

Split Toe Derby

A split toe derby is defined by the raised seam running down the center of the toe, dividing the vamp in two.

It is a shoe with a handmade look built into its shape: the seam catches light, breaks up the front of the foot and gives the silhouette an edge that a plain toe never has. Open lacing keeps it easy to wear.

It sits comfortably with flannel and tweed, and it carries a rubber lug sole as naturally as a leather one.

Ours are Goodyear welted in European calfskin, with the split seam raised proud of the vamp rather than pressed flat.

Commando Sole

A commando sole is a chunky, deep-lugged rubber sole, and it changes the character of the shoe on purpose. The lugs bite into snow, mud and wet leaves the way no dress sole can, and the extra thickness adds close to an inch of height and a deliberate, planted stance.

It is the most rugged finish we offer and the one that survives a real winter without being babied.

Pair it with the heavier leathers and suedes and it reads confident rather than formal — a shoe for cold mornings, gravel drives and the months when the weather decides what you wear.
